Since forming in 2019, Lonesome have consistently pushed the boundaries of what a rock band can be - crafting music that is as emotionally resonant as it is sonically immersive. Known for their conceptual depth, cinematic live shows, and uncompromising honesty, the band now returns with their latest single, You Say It’s Love - a searing meditation on the gap between words and truth.
Following the raw, cathartic anger of Liar and the quiet devastation of Save Your Words, You Say It’s Love marks the next chapter in Lonesome’s emotional evolution. Simmering with frustration, the track confronts the hollow performance of affection - the dissonance between what is said and what is felt. The haunting refrain “You say you love” repeats like a challenge, casting doubt on the meaning behind declarations that fail to be lived.
This is not just another breakup song - it’s a reckoning. The contrast is clear: love that should heal, and love that wounds. With lyrics like “bleeding out the bitter heart of you,” the band lays bare the corrosive effect of emotional dishonesty. It’s a portrait of intimacy unraveling, not with a scream but with a slow, painful realisation that love — when reduced to performance — can betray the very thing it promises to protect.
Lonesome’s commitment to immersive storytelling has defined their sound from the beginning. Their debut EP, To Myself, From Myself (2019), earned praise from Already Heard as “a pure, coherent body of work that’s designed to be listened to in full.” With their follow-up, Inure (2021), The Indie Squid noted how their “layered, multi-faceted” sound stood on its own, while contributing to a larger emotional narrative.
But Lonesome's artistry goes beyond the recorded track. Their live performances are known for being intense, atmospheric, and wholly consuming - marrying visuals, lighting, and emotion into a powerful display of creative intent. Noizze captured it best: “a band heading for much larger venues,” while Alt Dialogue urged: “Get in at the start, this band are essential.”
With Save Your Words, Lonesome were once again named Kerrang! Radio Fresh Blood’s Featured Artist of the Week, reaffirming their growing impact. The track also caught the attention of BBC Radio 1’s Alyx Holcombe, earning airplay on the Introducing Rock Show - a moment of national exposure that signals their rising profile in the UK rock scene.
Now, with You Say It’s Love, Lonesome continue to expand their emotional range - offering music that isn’t just heard, but lived. They’re not just building a discography; they’re telling a story, one that invites listeners to feel everything, and face the uncomfortable truths that often come with love, loss, and healing.
Lonesome are not just a band to watch - they’re a band to feel. And they’re only just getting started.

Lyrics
Show me a time,
Life wasn’t peaceful.
I’ll hang onto every word that’s spoken.
And there’s no trust in you with the words you never said.
I’m standing right here bleeding with regret.
It can be so easy.
It should be so easy.
But how righteous of you,
How righteous one can be.
You say you love.
You say it’s love.
You say you love, (you say it hurts)
You say it’s love, (but you don’t know its worth)
You say you love, (it’s bleeding out the bitter heart of you)
You say it’s love.
It’s bleeding out the bitter heart of you...
You say you love but you don’t know its worth.
And how righteous of you, (you say you love)
How righteous one can be.
The Meaning Behind
You Say It’s Love
You Say It’s Love confronts the divide between declarations and actions. With simmering frustration, it challenges the performative nature of affection - the way someone can speak of love without embodying its truth. The haunting refrain “You say you love” casts doubt on the meaning behind the words.
The song offers a powerful contrast: love as peaceful and healing, versus love that betrays and bleeds. “Bleeding out the bitter heart of you” is a devastating image of how emotional dishonesty corrodes intimacy. More than a breakup track, it’s a moment of reckoning - where love is weighed, tested, and found wanting.
